Brand dates back to the middle ages but has existed in its modern form since the Brand family purchased the Netherlands’ oldest brewery in 1871. It is based in Wijlre, in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is owned by Heineken. All barley and hops use sustainable cultivation. Water is obtained from Brand’s own source. The brewery uses solar, wind and water energy for all the electricity it needs. All Brand's beers are packaged in a unique, refillable bottle with just one label, after which everything from the bottles to the crates is recycled. Brand produces 10 beers, two of which are alcohol free beers.

Hoppy floral smell morphing into bitter hoppy taste

World beer award recipient

Dry/ish review

Hoppy, floral smell carried through into a bitter hoppy taste. Sharp on the tongue, but not unpleasantly so. A slightly bitter, lingering aftertaste. Okay for an unchallenging IPA, perhaps as an accompaniment to food.

Intense apple smell, malty-sweet taste

Dry/ish review

A strong, fruity (rotting apple) smell. Very carbonated. An overpoweringly sweet taste with hints of an indeterminate fruit (or fruits). Disappointing.
