Light and crisp, citrus edge to taste

World beer award recipient

Dry/ish review

Light but not watery taste with hint of citrus fruits and a touch of bitterness. A satisfyingly conventional lager taste, despite the absence of alcohol. However no particular characteristic that elevates it to the best in its class. Nonetheless, very drinkable though, in particular if you’re a fan of Beck’s.

Malty aroma with malty, chocolate, smokey taste

International Beer Challenge Award recipient

Top 5 Stout/ Porter/ Dark

Dry/ish review

A difficult beer for the casual drinker to enjoy, perhaps. Technically accomplished brewing, undoubtedly, but unfortunately milk stout is not a style of beer I particularly enjoy. For me this beer has a slightly one dimensional palate of tastes, dominated by a malty, chocolate-y sweetness accompanied by an unexpected and not altogether pleasant smokiness. It lacks the depth and thickness of a conventional alcoholic stout. In contrast to the beer’s taste, the aftertaste is unexpectedly. However, other reviewers rate this beer highly.

Light but sharply bitter pale ale

Top 5 Pale Ale

Dry/ish review

Very dry, with a sharply bitter citrus taste that rolls through into the beer’s aftertaste. A relatively lightly bodied beer, without any of the thinness that can lessen the attractiveness of non-alcoholic beers. Refreshing and well executed, but not particularly differentiated from other pale ales.

Caramel scent with burnt toffee taste

Dry/ish review

Caramel/ dark chocolate smell. Sweet Burnt toffee taste, but slightly thin as though the beer is lightly carbonated water with added essence of porter. Not unpleasant, but probably not a good introduction to this style. So perhaps steer clear unless you you’re a fan of porter.

Biting bitterness, hoppy aroma

Dry/ish review

Very sharp and bitter. An intense, hoppy smell with slight floral hints. The taste almost a shock with a biting bitterness that lingers long into aftertaste. If you like intensely bitter, hoppy beers you’ll really like this. If not, probably better avoided.

Has a light, fruity, hoppy aroma. A medium bodied, bitter hoppy taste with no wateriness, leading into a pleasantly sour aftertaste which fades into sweeter fruitiness as it disappears. Refreshing and definitely more-ish.

Dry/ish review

Brooklyn Special Effects is the first non alcoholic beer from one of the USA's largest craft brewers. A slightly hoppy aroma with a light taste but perhaps a little on the thin side. No stand out bitterness or sweetness and little aftertaste. As its easy to find and often the only choice, if it's all that's available it’s a pleasant-enough option but others are better.

Refreshing, very light, crisp

Dry/ish review

An innocuous beer. No distinct aroma. Light and gently carbonated. Slightly hoppy taste, but a little thin. Definitely refreshing and not unpleasant but nothing special - others are more satisfying and have more interesting flavours. It’s certainly a safe choice, and if you like Carlsberg, this should probably your first stop.

A complex but light aroma blending hops, malt and caramel. A very lightly carbonated beer with a medium bodied, smooth sweet, malty taste balanced by a slight hoppy bitterness. A classic German wheat beer. However watch out for the sugar and calories – not a beer for anyone on a diet!
