Pale Ale

61 Pale Ales listed

Pale Ales taste predominantly of hops and malts, are usually medium bodied and tend to be more bitter than lagers and wheat beers. Pale Ales include a wide range of styles such as English Bitter, Blonde Ales and Amber Ales. The best non-alcoholic Pale Ale beers share many of the characteristics of their alcoholic counterparts, but tend to be less complex and slightly lighter bodied.

Top 5 Pale Ale

Dry/ish review

There's no doubt that Adnams Ghost Ship Alcohol Free is a citrus Pale Ale from the first smell - it has an intense citrus aroma, almost (to some palates, perhaps) overwhelming. Tart, bitter taste almost to the point of being sour. Short, bitter (but not unpleasant) aftertaste. No sweetness at all. Not neccessarily to everyone's taste, but if you like the alcoholic version of Adnam’s Ghost Ship or an intensely bitter pale ale then you’ll almost certainly enjoy this.

Dry/ish review

Very dry, with a sharply bitter citrus taste that rolls through into the beer’s aftertaste. A relatively lightly bodied beer, without any of the thinness that can lessen the attractiveness of non-alcoholic beers. Refreshing and well executed, but not particularly differentiated from other pale ales.

Malty sweetness balancing herbal bitterness

World beer award recipient

Brewer's description

BRLO Naked is proof that you can have fun without too much alcohol. A non-alcoholic pale ale for balmy summer nights. Citra, Mandarina Bavaria and Lemondrop bring forth earthy and herbal notes which perfectly balance the sweetness of our malt bill. And at only 40 IBUs, Naked is the perfect alternative to a heavy hitting IPA, but without the hangover.

Toasted malts, autumnal spices, subtle bitterness

Dry/ish review

Big Drop’s Firesider Pumpkin Spice is a light, gently bitter and autumnal dark beer. As its name suggests, it has enjoyable hints of pumpkin in its aroma and taste. However aside from pumpkin, its autumnal-ness is boosted by a slightly stronger taste of nutmeg. These combine in any easy drinking and out-of-the-ordinary beer for an autumn or any evening. Pleasantly different

Very sharp and bitter. An intense, hoppy smell with slight floral hints. The taste almost a shock with a biting bitterness that lingers long into aftertaste. If you like intensely bitter, hoppy beers you’ll really like this. If not, probably better avoided.

Sharp citrus burst, lingering bitterness

Dry/ish review

A strong citrus smell somewhat overpowers other aromas (yuzu is a citrus fruit, although it only provides a generic citrus flavour in this beer). The citrus theme continues into the taste which is not-unpleasantly sharp and sour. However the sour aftertaste is unsubtle and lingers longer than might be ideal. Very refreshing and slightly less intimidating than some other intensely bitter pale ales.

Brewer's description

Coast Beer Co’s Farmhouse Ale is a unique and highly refreshing alcohol free craft beer which keeps you coming back for more. Amber colour, slightly sour with an aroma of pear and apple with a tangy finish. This is a team favourite here at COAST whenever we’re looking to change it up from hop-forward beers.
